Summary week 3

The Giver Summary

Jonas is a 12 year old boy that is chosen to take on the role of the receiver of memory which is the most honored role in the community. During his training he is given memories of many things including love, family, and happiness. One memory that is shared with Jonas reveals the painful side of his training. He is shown the terror of war. Then, a few days later, Jonas was given another memory which was the the Giver’s favourite. It was of a family during the holidays. Jonas questioned why the old had been in the house and finds out they are called grandparents (the parent`s parents). For the past few weeks Jonas's family has been taking care of a new child named Gabe. Gabe started sleeping in Jonas`s room. On the first day when Gabe woke up, Jonas caught himself accidentally sharing memory with Gabe. As the memory faded from Jonas’s head, Gabe went right back to sleep. Now Jonas shares memories with Gabe every night but keeps it a secret from his family and the Giver.
